"Lullaby for Wayne" is the twelth track from the deluxe edition of Weezer's self-titled debut.
Appearances
Overview
"Lullaby for Wayne" was one of fifteen tracks considered for the band's 1994 debut, The Blue Album, but the song would not make it to the proper recording sessions. A pre-production recording, done with Ric Ocasek, from August 11, 1993 exists and eventually surfaced on the 2004 deluxe edition of The Blue Album. Fans generally theorize that the reason the song was cut was due to its similarity to "Surf Wax America".
Other versions
A February 1993 home demo by Rivers was released on the demo storefront on Cuomo's personal website on December 9, 2020 in the Patrick & Rivers bundle. Another full-band take also exists, which was recorded April 27, 1993, at the Loyola Marymount University by Dale Johnson. Dale engineered this take at the same studio in which he recorded the released version of "Jamie" about two weeks prior.
A live version, recorded on April 29, 1993, appears on Video Capture Device as "Lullabye for Pat Finn," and has the title lyric changed for the occasion of Weezer's friend Pat Finn leaving Los Angeles.

Lyrics
Class of 1988
Never thought you'd graduate
Playin' with your guns all day
If only they could see you now
And how you've learned to shoot so well
They wouldn't laugh that way.
Wayne, you know it's true,
There's nothing you can do,
So put them guns away.
All of your friends are through;
They've given up what they tried to do.
See now how happy they are?
Each with a new lease on life
A brand new car, a low-mileage wife.
Put down them guns and fall into line
Wayne, you know it's true
There's nothing you can do
So put them guns away
Who cares what's wrong or right?
So please give up the fight
And put them guns away
All your friends have proved
There's nothing you can do
So put them guns away
Do do do do do do do do...
Wayne, you know you're in too deep
All your friends have gone to sleep
Wayne, you know you're in too deep
Wayne, you know you're in too deep
All your friends have gone to sleep
Wayne, you know you're in too deep
All your friends have proved
There's nothing you can do
So put them guns away
Wayne, you know it's true
There's nothing you can do
So put them guns away
Who cares what's wrong or right?
So please give up the fight
And put them guns away
