"Two to Tango" (also rendered as "2-2-Tango") is a song written by Rivers Cuomo in the early 1990s.

Appearances

Overview

Rivers Cuomo is first documented as having recorded a "prototype" of "Two to Tango" in late 1991 or early 1992 as part of an informal "50 Song Project" with Patrick Wilson, wherein the two intended to write fifty songs between them before moving forward with any new band projects.[1] Cuomo recorded two versions, a "prototype" at an unknown date, as well as a second version on January 3, 1992. Weezer rehearsed "Two to Tango" within days of the band's formation, on February 16, 1992, and performed it live on at least one occasion, at the 8121 Club in West Hollywood.[2]

"Two to Tango" went unheard by fans for many years, though Cuomo uploaded handwritten lyrics for the song in the early 2000s (see #Lyrics). Cuomo released a demo of the song in November of 2020 as a part of the digital demo compilation Alone V: Before Weezer, though it is unknown which of the two aforementioned demos it is.

Handwritten lyrics for "Two to Tango"

It takes two
Two to tango
It takes two
To lay down that foxtrot
It takes two
It takes three or four or more
To set the world on fire

To pack yourself a sandwich for lunch
To pack yourself some baggies for walking
It takes three
It takes four
It takes quite a few many more

So listen right here now
This part's supposed to be half-time
In the future, if this song's ever played,
This part should be half-time and that should be good
Like that, okay?

Where we foxtrot
It's a really special place
I call my home

Then you'll see
What's inside me
I'll show you why
I call so sly
And it go

You're not old
Something complete
So secure
If you're not sure
