"Hot Tub" is a song written by Rivers Cuomo in 1993. It was later performed by Homie in 1997.

Overview

Cuomo originally wrote "Hot Tub" around July of 1993. Cuomo is known to have written the song for singer Tom Jones. According to Karl Koch:

"I think the bands then-manager somehow had a contact who knew Tom and tom was looking for songs for his new album at the time. Obviously he did not end up using “Hot Tub”. It's also possible Rivers wrote it first and then found out about the Tom thing. We may never know unless someone asks Rivers someday."
In an entry for the song on Riverpedia in 2020, Cuomo noted "[Jennifer] Chiba had a hot tub in the courtyard of her apartment complex in Palms." This demo was circulated to fans by Cuomo in 2002 via the Rivers Correspondence Board.

Cuomo revived the song a few years later in November 1997 for his side-project, Homie. The song was performed at both of the live Homie concerts that month. Cuomo mused to the audience "This is kind of a joke song, so don't take it too seriously." These live versions of the song were altered to feature a wholly different bridge/outro section with new lyrics and a new guitar solo.

Lyrics

1993 Demo

You may not be the one for me
But baby, you’re a lot of fun
Let me come to your house, my dear
Drink champagne and smoke a bowl

I wanna get in your hot tub baby
I wanna get in you now
So get in your car and pick me up
Or I’m gonna put you down
Or I’m gonna put you down

Please, honey girl, won’t you be cool
To the voodoo doll that is me.
Take the pins out of his butt
Maybe even give him a treat.

Sometimes I’m so disappointed
I can’t be more of a man
Sometimes my life feels so empty
Not letting love play her hand
Sometimes I’m so disillusioned
Are my relationships fake?
I admit this is a problem
To be solved another other day
To be solved another other day

Live, 1997

You may not be the one for me
But baby, you’re a lot of fun
Let me come to your house, my dear
Drink a bit and smoke a bowl

I wanna get in your hot tub, baby
I wanna get in you now
So get in your car and pick me up
Or I’m gonna put you down
I’m gonna put you down

Please, honey girl, won’t you be cool
To the voodoo doll that is me?
Take the pin out of his butt
And maybe even give him a treat

And every day that you play in the water
Come and take me home
Every day, with the days getting hotter
I don’t wanna be alone
Every night in the light of the moonshine
Come and take me home
Every day as you play in the water
Come and take me
Come and take me home

I’m gonna put you down
