"Mansion of Cardboard" is a song demoed by Weezer in 2002 in early contention for the band's planned fifth album.

Appearances

Overview

Following completion on the band's fourth album, Maladroit, Weezer immediately began work on a planned fifth album, recording new demos throughout the spring and summer of 2002. Three demos of "Mansion of Cardboard" were shared with fans on the band's official website. Ultimately, all of the demos from the aforementioned sessions were scrapped, and the band's fifth album would not see release until 2005.

"Mansion of Cardboard" is a lyrical reworking of the song "So Low," which was performed live by the band several times in 2001 and demoed in consideration for Maladroit.

Lyrics

Overcoat
Old wool cap
Leather gloves
Hide the fat

In a world made of tears
He is safe from his fears
On his own
He's on his own
And he likes it that way

Thoughts arise
Theories gel
Bearing fruit
Giving smell

It's the happiest day
When he moves far away
From the crowd
The curious crowd
And he wants them to

Stand back, the old man's snoring heavy
Down underneath the bridge, he's got his
Mansion of cardboard slats
And it's enough

It's the happiest day
When he moves far away
From the crowd
The curious crowd
And he wants them to

Stand back, the old man's snoring heavy
Down underneath the bridge, he's got his
Mansion of cardboard slats
And it's enough
Stand back, the old man's snoring heavy
Down underneath the bridge, he's got his
Mansion of cardboard slats
And it's enough
