|
"Tell Me What You Want" is a single by Weezer. The song was recorded in consideration for Van Weezer, though was ultimately excluded from the album. It was instead released as a featured song for the the 2021 video game Wave Break by Funktronic Labs.
Appearances
- Wave Break (video game, 2021)
- "Tell Me What You Want" (7"-vinyl, 2021)
Overview
The song's bridge is a re-appropriation of the Maladroit-era demo "Zep Jamb," written in 2001. Its pre-verse riff is also from a demo of that era called "chunky riff". On May 3, 2021, Rivers Cuomo mentioned to Riverchat users that the verses for "Tell Me What You Want" were originally written from the perspective of the character Sebastian from Everything Will Be Alright in the End.[1] Cuomo first unveiled the song during a video chat with fans on his mobile app on April 30, 2021. When asked why the song was not included on the album, Cuomo stated that "1 More Hit" was "kind of like the same genre, but better." Brian Bell uploaded a video of himself playing guitar over the song to his Instagram account on May 3, 2021 [2][3]. Weezer performed the song to accompany the unveiling of the video game Wave Break at the video game industry event Summer Game Fest on June 10, 2021. The song's June 11 release date was also announced alongside a 7"-vinyl single published by iam8bit and slated for release in the fourth quarter of 2021 (later delayed to 2022).

Lyrics
This is a message that my manager wouldn't approve
After this song, he'll have a lot of cleaning up to do
Don't be influenced by an office full of dorks
I won't mention any names...
[coughing] Pitchfork
Tell me what you want
I'm gonna get right on it
Tell me what you want
I'll write it down in my notebook
Duly noted
Tell me what you want
If it's gonna make you happy
I'll give you my guitar
Show me all your hot licks
Damn, that's cool
I need a taste-maker to tell me which way to go
So I can play the halftime show at the Super Bowl
Everyone's entitled to their own opinions
Here's your big chance, yeah
You got the next three seconds
Tell me what you want
I'm gonna get right on it
Tell me what you want
I'll write it down in my notebook
Duly noted
Tell me what you want
If it's gonna make you happy
I'll give you my guitar
Show me all your hot licks
Damn, that's cool
Say baby
Tell me
Are we almost there?
Say baby
Should I bleach my hair?
Tell me what you want
I'm gonna get right on it
Tell me what you want
I'll write it down in my notebook
Duly noted
Tell me what you want
If it's gonna make you happy
I'll give you my guitar
Show me all your hot licks
Damn, that's cool
