The Best of the Demos is a digital compilation released by Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo. The "best of" collection of songs, curated by riverscuomo.com users Geewiz and KingTom, is comprised of tracks from other Alone digital bundles sold on riverscuomo.com. This bundle was made available for purchase on riverscuomo.com on December 3, 2020. The compilation was removed from the demo storefront some time thereafter.[date?] Like other compilations sold on riverscuomo.com, it was not an album in the conventional sense; it was instead a folder of MP3s accessible through the file hosting service Dropbox or through Cuomo's music streaming website/mobile app, Weezify.
Overview
I think I've posted on this forum somewhere about this, but the intention here was never an all-encompassing "greatest hits" but a brief survey of what kind of sounds are available. Calling this "the best of" is definitely a misnomer, and a mistake that is probably traceable back to me. It is not a best of or a greatest hits. This was meant to be an easily digestible entry point into the RC.com market. The plan was to have 9 curated Alone entries, one for each bundle which functioned in the same way, and then to use those 9 (135 tracks) to boil into a "welcome bundle" sort of deal with 20 tracks.
Limiting myself to 20 tracks meant I was going to have to pick 1 or 2 from each era that would give, in broad strokes, what the era sounds like. Extremely limiting, and again, not at all a "best of," because as countless have said, tastes vary and not everyone thinks Hurley is the greatest concept album Weezer have produced For this specific question of why Volunteers wasn't included... I had already included 4 EWBAITE era songs when I was trying to restrict myself to 2 per era. - Curator "Geewiz", describing the curation process on the All Things Weezer forums. |
