Appearances

Overview

"Domino Effect" was the first Ozma song to be given a music video, and is a favorite among Ozma fans. The song seamlessly flows into the next track, "Apple Trees". As such, the two songs are usually played back-to-back live. An acoustic medley of "Domino Effect" can be heard at the end of the song "Battlescars," also on Rock and Roll Part Three. The chorus melody was originally improvised in the Commuter Music demo "Dominnow School", and the song's working title during recording was "Commuter Music".[1]

Rivers Cuomo

Weezer lead singer Rivers Cuomo chose "Domino Effect" as the first song on Weezer's iTunes Celebrity Playlist. Cuomo said of the song, "[Ozma is] beating me at my own game."[2]

Music video

The music video for "Domino Effect" was directed by Joe Escalante, founder of Ozma's label, Kung Fu Records. The music video uses the radio edit of the song, which features a shorter drum solo at the beginning.

Lyrics

(Rudy Huxtable!)

Chances last a finite time,
In the warm July nighttime.
Every care that keeps you from your feet,
Is a care that carries your defeat.

You better let 'er rip tonight,
With a pocket full of kryptonite.
Every care that keeps you in your seat,
Is a care that carries your defeat.

Sing that song you sang long ago.
A heartbeat, so sure and slow.
Hold me, and don't let go.
The fourteenth domino.

Twenty thousand points of light.
Sun by day, disco ball by night.
Every care that keeps you from the beat,
Is a care that carries your defeat.

Sing that song that I used to know.
The fourteenth black domino.
Hold me, like long ago.
A heartbeat, sure and slow.

Chances last a finite time,
In the warm July nighttime.
Every care that keeps you from your feet,
Is a care that carries your defeat.

Chances last a finite time, and you're running out of time
