Overview

Scott: King was my favorite demo on Rivers' "Deliverance at Hand" demos. It wasn't getting voted into the pool so I called him and said, "This song is the shit everybody is crazy!" He said, "Oh yeah you sing it then," I said "Oh yeah, OK I will!" This was one of if not the most difficult songs to get recorded. I think we played it for three weeks as a band. It made everyone crazy. I love how it turned out.

"King" is first known to have been demoed by Rivers Cuomo in 2007. The song was included in the demo compilation Deliverance at Hand!, a CD-R that Cuomo presented to his bandmates containing songs in contention for the band's planned sixth album. The song features bassist Scott Shriner on vocals. Shriner was encouraged to sing the song after fighting for its inclusion on Red (where it was ultimately released as a bonus track on deluxe issues of the album). Weezer performed the song to promote the album on multiple occasions, including the band's "takeover" of the Sirius Radio station Alt Nation, as well as filmed performances for AOL's Sessions@AOL and MTV's Artist of the Week series. "King" was performed on Weezer's Troublemaker Tour with Karl Koch on keyboards.
