Overview

Rivers Cuomo is alleged to have first mentioned the song's title via Riverchat in August 2020. The song was added to the list of known songs in the Riverpedia entry for OK Human, and was thereafter presumed confirmed due to all edits being approved by Cuomo. The song's existence was further confirmed when demos of the song were listed on the riverscuomo.com demo storefront.

Rivers Cuomo originally wrote the song for his friend, controversial author, philosopher, and podcast host Sam Harris. "I felt like I have more experience dealing with the internet and trolls because all that arose right when we were making our most controversial records," Cuomo told Los Angeles Times, "I wanted to explain to Sam how to not get sucked into it." Cuomo also revealed the chorus originally featured the line: "Don't go on Reddit". A song with the title "Reddit" from 2018 was previously listed as dummy data on the demo storefront on riverscuomo.com in 2020.
