Appearances

Overview

"Private Message" was worked on extensively throughout the sessions for the band's planned fifth album in 2002. It was recorded at various studios beginning as early as February of 2002. "Private Message" was one of the first post-Maladroit Weezer songs to be uploaded to fans, released before Maladroit was even in stores. Later the song was practiced acoustically at S.I.R. Studios in late 2002. It was performed at a secret show at The Hotel Cafe in Los Angeles, CA. The song was worked on again beginning in November of 2003, though it did not appear on the resulting album, Make Believe. Weezer guitarist Brian Bell later reworked the song into the demo "Hand to Hold," for his band, the Relationship.

Lyrics

I want you so badly
Too bad that you slammed me
And when you are reading the words I write
You think that I'm just some dumb, horny guy

I'm trying to show you
A hint of my coolness
But I can't give up on the secret ???
'Cause love is so empty when you can cheat

Hold my hand
Tell me that you love me for who I am

I never have witnessed
A beauty like yours
And not just in your face, but in your mind
I'm hoping that someday will come a time

Hold my hand
Tell me that you love me for who I am

And not just in your face, but in your mind
I'm hoping that someday will come a time

Hold my hand
Tell me that you love me for who I am

I'm trying to show you a hint of my coolness
